Integrated design and machining method for progressive power lens

Progressive power lenses provide a good solution to correct presbyopia and other disorders of accommodation. However, the design and manufacture of a progressive power lens is still a challenge to many optical manufactories, since there is no general optical software could easily meet the stringent requirement. This paper presents the research of a new approach for integrated design and machining progressive power lens by general optical software “Zemax. Ultra-precision machining technology based on slow slide servo (3S) is further employed to fabricate an injection mould insert. Test result of the prototype finally validate the proposed integrated design and machining method.
